Due to its high material utilisation, forming technology is one of the energy-efficient production processes. From an economic and geo-ecological point of view, the challenge is to be able to dispense with the use of lubricants in the future.
A central goal of the priority programme was to come closer to the goal of a lubricant-free factory by creating new lubricant-free forming processes and adapting relevant technologies.
In order to make dry forming economically viable, the stressability of the tools should also be increased by means of targeted surface technology in the case of increasing stress, or the stress on the forming process should be reduced by means of suitable measures, for example process technology adaptations. The focus within the priority programme was on the areas of forming technology, surface technology and failure modelling.
The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft funded the Priority Programme SPP 1676 "Dry Forming - Sustainable Production through Dry Processing in Forming Technology" from 2013-2019.
