Schwerpunktprogramm Trockenumformen - Nachhaltige Produktion durch Trockenbearbeitung in der Umformtechnik 2013-2019

Publications

The DFG Priority Program SPP 1676 was started in 2013 and ended in 2019. The subject of research was the forming processes: deep drawing, rotary swaging, cold extrusion, cold massive forming and asserting different production strategies with the aim of developing lubricant-free forming processes. The reports on the colloquia can be found in the Dry Metal Forming Open Access Journal (DMFOAJ).

Aims and Scope

Dry Metal Forming is an international journal covering the science, technology and application of metal forming without lubricants (or at least aiming at largely avoiding the use of lubricants). A pragmatic definition of the term “dry metal forming” was proposed that is based on the process chain and focusses the ecological and economical points of view, i.e. avoiding any cleaning necessity after forming: „Dry metal forming is a process where a work piece leaves the forming tool without the necessity of cleaning or drying before further production steps such as coating or joining processes“.

It is the aim of the journal to provide a forum for the publication of original research papers, reports and studies as well as review and opinion papers dealing with the issues related to dry forming of metals. The scope of the journal covers the wide range of potentially “dry” forming technologies which have to date taken advantage of the use of lubricants, and it includes the understanding materials interactions and the mechanisms of friction and wear in dry contact of forming tool and work piece, the challenges for the forming processes in view of narrowing processing envelopes, as well as lifetime considerations of the tools under challenging dry forming conditions and the design of tools for dry metal forming including appropriate surface engineering solutions.

Benefits to authors

Dry Metal Forming is an open access journal that provides worldwide visibility and unlimited access to the full papers which may be downloaded free of charge. A liberal copyright policy ensures that all rights for the content of the papers rest with the authors. Moreover, no handling fee is charged from the authors at this point.
